Gaming is one of the most loved pastimes of the world. New technologies are coming up every other day to enhance the already vibrant gaming experience. Games have evolved to the point that 3D gaming is becoming fairly common now due to the fact that the evolution of tablet pcs has made it more easier for gaming lovers to enjoy thier games on the go
One of the deciding factors for the deep penetration of games in today’s world has been the mobile platform. Smartphones and tablets are fast becoming the cornerstone of the gaming industry. Small games that are entertaining and cost less hold a special attraction to casual gamers around the world. After the success of such devices, it has not come as a surprise that Microsoft is rumored to be working on the Xbox platform on a 7-inch tablet and the same will be available in the market in mid 2013
Riding on the initial success of the Surface tablet running on Windows 8, Microsoft is coming up with an interesting product. It is positioning itself in a way like Apple has in the present market. Similar to the Surface tablet, Microsoft is designing this mini tablet to do away with the shortcomings observed in iPad mini.
The primary advantage of such a table is that its focus is only on entertainment and nothing else. It doesn’t have to add products or components to make it more enticing to the customers. Also, mini tablets are priced moderately at about $200.
Similar to Kindle Fire focused on services from Amazon such as movies and books, Xbox Tablet will have an acute focus on gaming. This means the product will have a high performance and great display.
The tablet, called as Xbox Surface, will most probably include an ARM processor along with a high-bandwidth RAM. Other than this, there are rumors about an unannounced SoC from Intel. The Xbox Surface can also be released to work on any hardware architecture. Microsoft will not put the whole version of its operating system in the tablet; instead it will run on customized Windows kernel. There might be some added features such as messaging, but the complete focus will be on gaming.
Microsoft has been working on the new tablet in a production line that is different from what it has traditionally been working in. This secret production facility has been behind the production of the Surface tablets. Though the Xbox Surface will be produced from here, any successive Xbox consoles, such as Xbox 720, will still be produced by its partners such as Foxconn or Pegatron.
Microsoft has already restricted the buildings related to Xbox to a lot of employees in its Silicon Valley offices. This lock down can be attributed to the company's increased testing with respect to the tablet. If things go as planned, the new tablet can be expected to hit the market before the future Xbox console.
Microsoft is going all guns blazing to get the tech supremacy in gaming technologies. The release of the Xbox Surface might signal a change for the company in the gaming platform business.
